2024 Wilderness Medicine Training & Certification Courses

We are proud to serve as the instructional provider of Wilderness Medicine courses in Northern Vermont, across a variety of levels to meet your needs. CPR certification is included. Enrollment is limited to 15 students.

SOLO Wilderness First Aid & CPR - $200 per person - tuition only
The two-day Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course is SOLO's most popular creating a solid foundation in the basics of backcountry medical care. Initially offered in 1975, this course was the first of its kind in the United States, and it is the curriculum upon which all other backcountry medicine courses are based. This is a great course for mountain bikers, hikers, climbers, backpackers, backcountry skiers and other outdoor enthusiasts who venture out for day and weekend trips.

SOLO Advanced Wilderness First Aid & CPR - $400 per person - tuition only
This four-day course provides the same curriculum as the SOLO WFA course on days 1 & 2, with additional topics and more advanced skills provided during days 3 & 4. Please contact us for more details.

SOLO Wilderness First Responder Recertification & CPR - $200 per person
Wilderness Medical Associates; Wilderness Medicine Institute; University of Vermont; Aerie Backcountry Medicine; Wilderness Medicine Outfitters; Wilderness Medicine Training Center; and Remote Medical International certifications are recognized by SOLO for WFR recertification.

SOLO Wilderness First Responder. $600 per person - tuition only
This 8-day course is the recognized industry standard for those who work as backcountry trip leaders, camp counselors, mountain guides, river guides, and ski patrollers.

John Kascenska has been trained by the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) as a certified Single Pitch Instructor for rock climbing.





AIARE AVALANCHE COURSES 2024/2025
For the 2024/2025 winter season, we are returning for the 12th consecutive year to teach AIARE 1 and Avalanche Rescue courses at International Mountain Climbing School (IMCS). The one-day rescue course is a stand-alone course that is designed for new and experienced recreational backcountry travelers, as well as aspiring avalanche professionals. New participants will learn the basics of companion rescue, while more experienced participants will have an opportunity to improve their current skill set, as well as learn about advanced topics through realistic scenario practice. Course enrollments are limited to 6 students. All courses provide the use of avalanche equipment (beacon, probe, and shovel). Check out the schedule of 3-day courses too.

First Aid & CPR Certification Course $125.00 per person - tuition only
Start the spring & summer seasons right with a basic first aid course. This 8-hour course is designed to provide participants with the skills to more safely assess and provide first aid treatment of common outdoor injuries until EMS arrives. This a perfect course for hikers, mountain bikers, road cyclists, and other day outdoor travelers who are recreating in places where ambulance response is readily available.
